    • Q:

Does the software allow readings to be made from an NI LabVIEW program? We have an automated test application, writtten in LabVIEW, that we need to measure the beep generated by the product being tested.
Asked on 7/8/2011 by Anonymous from New Berlin, WI

      1 answer

We do not have Labview Drivers or interfacing available. The HD600 ships with a complete software program for downloading to and viewing the data. I will reply from our technical email with a copy of the communication protocol in hopes it helps.

    • Q:

Does the software or the datalogging include the ability to calculate noise dosimetry?
Asked on 6/13/2011 by GGiant from Marathon, Ontario

      1 answer

No, this will not do dosimetry. We only have one meter that will do data-logging and dosimetry. That is item 01621-10.

    • Q:

I am trying to troubleshoot the cause of a mechanical noise. Will the software allow me to analyze the data logged on a SPL vs frequency graph? This would allow me to pinpoint which bearing or gear needs to be replaced.

The HD600 will log and display sound level in dBs only. It will not be able to report what frequency the level is at. This would be known as an Octave Band Analyzer which we have; the model is the 86500-00.

    • Q:

If I were wanting to log sound levels for an indefinite period of time, would this product, connected to a PC running the provided software, allow me to do this?

Yes, this is a data acquisition (real-time readings) and data logging unit.

Does it support remote downloading of data
      Asked on 12/30/2009 by P:

This unit only supports the download of data via USB port to a computer that has the included software loaded.

    • Q:

How is the timing for sample readings...and can it be set up to record above a certain Db time and date etc. How is it powerd and is it weather proof...thanks
Asked on 9/4/2009 by Wayne from weston colorado

      1 answer

The meter can store up to 20,000 readings at an interval rate of 1 to 59 seconds. Each recording session is saved as a data set and each record is saved with a date and time stamp.

This data can be downloaded using the supplied software. There are three ranges the datalogger can be set to: 30 to 80dB, 50 to 100dB, 80 to 130dB. The unit also has autoranging (30 to 130dB)

The unit is powered with a 9 V battery.

        It is not waterproof.

Comments about Extech Instruments Extech HD600 : Data Logging Sound Level Meter:

I use my HD600 to monitor audio levels in the work environment. But my work environment is a little different than that of the office worker. My "office" is a tent, in the middle of nowhere, supporting the U.S. Marine Corps. The HD600 gives me the information I need to make recommendations to protect the hearing of America's 911 Force.
