Customer Service Representative - Vernon Hills, IL  [e-mail resume]  

The Opportunity: Primary responsibility is professional telephone communication with our customers regarding the placement of orders, price quotation, problem solving, returns and technical assistance. Customer Service Representatives also participate in promotions of various Cole-Parmer products and upselling. This position is responsible for placing and monitoring orders via phone, fax, e-mail, web and occasional face to face order placement. This position responds to customer service issues with status, pricing, product availability, processing RAs and any other customer concerns or problems. This position also works closely with buyers and vendors to expedite orders and ensure customer satisfaction. May also be asked to handle assigned accounts as well as represent several Cole-Parmer business units.

The Requirements:

  • At least 2 years of call center/customer service experience.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Proven excellence in written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret customer prepared documents.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions or customer service requests.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to apply sound judgment and decision-making skills in dealing with a variety of routine and non-routine issues.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented. Strong data entry skills are required.
  • Experience with customer service systems.
  • The individual should be self-motivated, stress and pressure resistant, as well as a quick learner and must be able to develop and maintain constructive working relationships within and outside of the Company.


    Product Application Specialist  [e-mail resume]  

    The Opportunity: This position provides technical support to customers in the form of recommendations of both catalog and non-catalog items, troubleshooting, and other means to the various business units associated with Cole-Parmer, such as Oakton, Barnant Temperature, Innocal and Fisher, through telephone, fax, and email contact. Performs sales support duties such as entering orders, providing quotes and pricing expediting orders, and arranging returns. Their knowledge and experience is utilized to aid and improve the effectiveness of other departments including Customer Service, Direct Sales, Leads, Quotes, Field Sales, Marketing, E-Business, and Quality Control.

    The Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in natural, life, or physical sciences required(Chemistry, Biology, Physics preferred).
  • Previous experience in a laboratory setting and/or customer service/telesales preferred.
  • Must demonstrate aptitude and learning ability to gain knowledge and mastery of laboratory, fluid handling, electrochemistry and industrial instruments and equipment.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbally and written) to be able to conduct professional and courteous communications with internal and external customers, express ideas clearly, and work as part of a team.
  • Must possess strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to provide effective solutions to customers based on their needs, and to read and understand technical manuals and diagrams.
  • Must be able to effectively manage time and multitask as needed to effectively meet customers' expectations and timelines for responses to inquiries, and follow through on commitments.
  • Must be able to up-sell to customers in a professional and helpful manner; must do so with a high level of integrity.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer. Computer aptitude skills a large plus. Experience with an AS400 system and a CRM package a plus.


    Product Manager - Vernon Hills, IL  [e-mail resume]  

    The Opportunity: The Product Manager will strategically plan for the future growth of Cole-Parmer by identifying new market segments and products within their assigned product lines. Position is responsible for increasing sales through sourcing new products and effective promotion of current products including creating literature to market product lines. The successful candidate must be able to analyze current products and promotions for maximum profitability and return on investments, as well as source and negotiate with new suppliers and build and enhance communications with key suppliers.

    The Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s in Business, Marketing, Chemistry or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 - 5 years of progressive product line management and development experience or an equivalent combination of education and related industry work experience.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills to relate well with different levels of the organization, work cooperatively with customers, Sales Representatives and Marketing team.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills to write advertisements for product lines, develop and present training programs, and express ideas and results of research in a concise and clear manner.
  • Is able to manage multiple projects concurrently, meet deadlines, and follow-up in a timely manner through excellent organizational, planning, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Must be able to creatively analyze problems, process information from a variety of sources, grasp new concepts, approaches or systems, and organize information logically to contribute to the creation of the catalog, determine pricing, and identify strategies to increase revenues.
  • Must possess a professional appearance to represent Cole Parmer in a variety of shows and to the suppliers and customers.
  • Must be self-motivated and be able to work independently.
  • Must be proficient in standard computer applications, with excellent skills in Excel. Experience in Access and Showcase is a plus.
